Poem 213
Another ‘what lies beneath’ poem (see Poem 70 and Poem 118) influenced by Jaws and a memorable scene from The Night Of The Hunter … I’m thinking about all the things that ambush you in life and the way they creep up …
Water Troll
I watch for your feet feathering overhead
without success
I've pulled down several people
by mistake
but still not you
if I wanted I could walk out
right now go among the summer crowds
the frisbees dogs
and caravans
get introduced to you at a barbecue
and make something of it
but I choose not
I like the way the light bends
the slow motion feel
of currents
besides
you'll come
on my terms
even if it's at the last moment
and only because
you haven't been in
all summer
