Poem 232

Pretty much what it says on the tin …

Heavy Seventies

When I was a kid
sharing a room with my brother
all I ever heard
was
	    Led Zeppelin
 	    Black Sabbath
	    Uriah Heep
             Iron Butterfly
	    Juicy Lucy
	    Warhorse
	    Coliseum
	    Humble Pie
while I tried
to get to
sleep

as it turned out
it was a phase
he was going through
now he listens to alligator
swamp music from authentic black
bluesmen

and unexpectedly it's me
in the secondhand shops
turning up one of the old
yellowed furry covers
thrashed black vinyl poking
through the spine
who feels the urge
to hear Atomic Rooster's
Death Walks Behind You
one more time

Heavy Seventies
