Poem 391
I like the ambiguity of the title … losing ‘it’ was obviously the start of a new development but years later beginning to think and feel about that event in a different way possibly also marked a change … see Poem 3 for another meditation on the same subject …
New Development
I lost my virginity
or should I say
misplaced
in that I haven't got it
but I know
who has
in a car
parked on the edge
of a new development
I didn't feel the loss
I wasn't using it anyway
besides
she needed it
along with everyone else's
and her own unending
innocence
now everything's built up
you couldn't get privacy in this street
from a headlight or a torch
but I search every face
lifted in every blank car
just in case
one night
she's waiting
to pass it back to me
