Poem 151

Titles are either right there at the inception of the poem or can be elusive … this is one of the easy ones where the first line handily doubles as title …

( I like the rhyme of quarters with tortoises … )

The Royal Tongan Tortoise

four hundred years old
is dead
hit by a car
                   something
he didn't have to worry about
for three quarters of his life

tortoise among tortoises
I refuse to believe he died
instantly
